International Projects

Halimbu Junction | Papua New Guinea

River Engineering assisted a major consultant within PNG to develop a new tender and contract documentation for the client.  This involved the implementation of new standard conditions of contract better suited for larger projects. Through our global experience with various conditions of contract, we developed a document based on the Fédération Internationale Des Ingénieurs-Conseils (FIDIC). These final templates formed the basis for future contracts.

Project Management in Papua New Guinea

We were engaged by a major consultancy within PNG to project manage various challenging projects in remote areas.  These consisted of:

  • Investigation of seven bridge sites in New Ireland for Nautilus Minerals. The project involved survey, drilling, geotechnical, hydrology and bridge concept designs and cost estimates
  • Investigation of five bridge sites in Tari, Highlands for Oil Search. The project involved survey, drilling, geotechnical, hydrology and bridge concept designs and cost estimates
  • 574 lot subdivision for the Papua New Guinea Defence Force as part of their retirement scheme in Port Moresby.

Liaison with local stakeholders and the safety of the site team was paramount.  Logistics were also a considerable challenge, particularly on multi site projects.  For instance, the Highlands project required a helicopter to transport the site staff and equipment to the site.
